WELCOME TO
THE BUREAU
To celebrate our 100 year anniversary, we’ve found a second home for Wandawega - in Chicago. We’ve been dreaming of having our own urban brick & mortar for years, and this is the year we’re finally making it happen. Opening date to come.
Meanwhile, follow along here on Instagram as we turn a 144 year old Chicago storefront into a tiny slice of Wandawega.
We’re a retail store. Sometimes a showroom. Always a studio. We’re cultivating a creative space for our Chicago creative community.

OUR INSPIRATION
The Wandwega Bureau of Tourism draws its inspiration from the rich history of Wisconsin's tourism bureaus, which played a significant role in promoting local attractions and fostering community engagement. By examining these historical models, we aimed to capture the essence of their charm and authenticity, reflecting the unique character of our own region. The original tourism bureaus served not only as informational hubs but also as gathering places that celebrated local culture, nature, and heritage. In creating The Wandwega Bureau of Tourism, we sought to honor this legacy while infusing it with a modern sensibility, ensuring that both residents and visitors can appreciate the diverse and vibrant experiences our area has to offer.

THE HISTORY OF
OUR STOREFRONT
This storefront has deep roots in Chicago’s baking industry. It operated as a commercial bakery as early as 1919, a fact confirmed through historical archives and the discovery of a large industrial oven still on-site. The building is also where Louis G. Kuchuris began working at age 12, delivering bread by horse and wagon. He later bought the Atlas Baking Co., building a career that earned him a place in the Baking Hall of Fame. The building’s legacy reflects both the evolution of baking in Chicago and a personal story of immigrant perseverance and entrepreneurship.
